Green Tea and LED
First, let’s recap why green tea has such a special relationship with Red LED Light Therapy. We know that Red LED Light stimulates mitochondria, the powerhouse of our cells, and helps increase cellular energy by speeding up the production of ATP. This process, known as mitochondrial respiration, also generates free radicals, which are important signaling molecules to drive cellular processes like cell proliferation, cell migration, and protein synthesis.
Extended use of moderately intense LED light, however, can lead to a build-up of free radicals, which start to inhibit cellular processes and slow the efficiency of your red-light device. Our cell’s natural antioxidant systems, which include the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase, help to keep the number of free radicals in check, but supplementing our natural antioxidant defenses with topical antioxidants, light green tea, allow your red light device to work more efficiently for longer. Green Rooibos Tea
Maysama skincare heroes a special kind of ‘green’ tea called green rooibos tea, better known as redbush tea by its tea-drinking devotees. Green tea, or Camelia sinensis, is native to China and India, whereas rooibos comes from the plant Aspalathus linearis, native to South Africa. Like green tea, green rooibos is prepared from fresh leaves, which have not been oxidized and have a high polyphenolic content, which corresponds to a high antioxidant capacity. To assess the synergistic action of green tea polyphenols with red light treatments, Mito Red Light and Maysama set up an extended product test using Maysama Green Rooibos Pressed Serum as a co-treatment with Mito Red’s 60 LED panel, with both red and near-infrared wavelengths. A group of 16 volunteers, women aged 27 to 65, used the combination therapy for a period of 3 months, after which changes to the skin were assessed.
Maysama Green Rooibos Serum was applied to split (half) face 15 minutes prior to a 10-minute treatment session with Mito Red red-NIR LED light panel. The protocol was repeated daily for a period of three months, after which the skin of the individuals was measured for the reduction in erythema (redness), pigmentation, wrinkles, and inflammation and changes to skin elasticity. Erythema
Erythema is redness of the skin or mucous membranes caused by increased blood flow in superficial capillaries. Rosacea patients have increased erythema caused by flushing.

Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation is a common skin concern caused by the overproduction of melanin in the skin and includes liver spots, freckles, and melasma. Hyperpigmentation is generally caused by sun exposure but may also relate to acne scarring.
Melasma is a type of hyperpigmentation caused not only by sun exposure but also, in part, by hormonal changes in the body, particularly during pregnancy. Melasma is particularly common in women of color and can be distressing for those trying to manage the condition.
Treatments for hyperpigmentation and melasma include sunscreen and topical creams containing prescription-only hydroquinone or tranexamic acid and other active ingredients. There has been some debate about whether LED light therapy is beneficial in the treatment of hyperpigmentation. Our results confirm that red light therapy is beneficial to the treatment of this condition.
Results show that treatment with red and NIR light gave an average 8.7% reduction in melanin levels from the baseline value, relative to a reduction of 22.98% when combining the two therapies. Wrinkle Reduction
Fine lines and wrinkles associated with the aging process are often the targets of anti-aging remedies. Loss of collagen and elastin in the face leads to loss of structural components that contribute to a less youthful appearance.
